After Party: Nicole Miller & Jessica Rimes
It’s over!
The party winds down. The laughter and chatter becomes a quiet conversation. The garbage is full. There are plates, bowls, and cups littered on every surface. It got dark out. There are only a few of us left now. It feels peaceful and warm in the afterglow. You think back to the events of the night, happiness, doubt, embarrassment at a silly fumble you made.
Overall it was fun right?? YOU might not remember but the table does. The couch holds your drink, better get that cleaned, the table has your wallet, don’t lose it, the quilt needs to be folded, be a good guest, and the house lost your shoes. Go Home!!
After Party is an installation based exhibit that transforms the gallery into a domestic space. It explores the nuanced dynamics of a social event including performance, masking, and personal connections. We focus on the reflections the day after, what’s left behind both in memory and as physical artifacts within the space.
Nicole Miller
Nicole Miller (she/her) is a practicing visual artist and received her BFA, majoring in painting, from Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) in 2024. Her practice investigates personal archives to explore themes of memory, nostalgia and queerness. She is looking at reflecting depictions of personal social events, dependent on archival imagery and personal recollections. In her words: "My practice considers the idea that, although you might not remember what you did last night, your table will!"
When not creating work, Nicole balances her time as a Co-Founder and Lead Operations Director at Crawlspace Gallery, and as an arts administrator/volunteer within Mohkinstsis, Treaty 7 region, Alberta. Nicole's interests include connecting with her community, candid photography, intensive planning, and the colour yellow.
Jessica Rimes
Jessica Rimes (She/Her) is a recent graduate of Alberta University of the Arts and is part of the operational team at Crawlspace Gallery. She is a Co-Director, Preparator, and the collective’s Programming Coordinator. Aside from Crawlspace, Jessica has also worked and volunteered at both the Bows and Alberta Printmakers Society respectively. Her work has been on view in numerous group shows including the Marion Nicoll Gallery, Calgary, AB; Illingworth Kerr Gallery, Calgary, AB, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA), Boston, MA. Jessica’s Artistic practice focuses on her matrilineal line of quilting, and deconstructing what is seen as "women's work”, taking it out of the home, redefining it and bringing it into a fine arts lens.
