IN PROCESS: The Abstract Six

IN PROCESS is a group exhibit and month-long residency featuring six Calgary abstract artists (Ghislaine Cleiren, Claudia Lorenz, Susan Hull, Barb Straka, Anne M Gunst, and Dixie Baum) exploring ideas of change, transition, and the creative process. Working in various mediums and styles, these artists use abstraction to express emotion, memory, and transformation through mark-making, texture, and experimentation. Throughout October, the gallery will remain an active workspace where visitors can witness the evolution of each artist’s work and engage in conversation about the creative process.

Ghislaine Cleiren

  • Ghislaine Cleiren is a multi-media artist working in mixed media and fibre art in Calgary, Alberta. Her abstract and representational work in acrylic, watercolor, oil and mixed media is a journey to capture the beauty and joy of life.

Barbara Straka

  • Born in 1966 and based in Alberta, I am a returning artist whose work merges a passion for running, the natural world, and emotional expression. Splitting my time between Calgary and the quiet beauty of Pigeon Lake, I create both representational and abstract works that explore the connections between outer landscapes and inner emotional states.

Susan Hull

  • Susan (Sue) Hull creates representational and abstract works, often with layers of acrylic and mixed media, intriguing mark making, depth, sophisticated colours and curvy movement.

Anne Marie Gunst

  • Anne-Marie Gunst is an abstract artist with a background in figurative art. Her artistic focus is on community, communication, and creativity.

Claudia Lorenz

  • Claudia Lorenz creates contemporary mixed media and collage-based abstracts that emphasize texture, edges, and the process of layering and subtraction.

Dixie Baum

  • Dixie Baum is a visual artist based in Calgary, Alberta. She enjoys exploring a broad range of processes to create both abstracted representational and non-representational works.
